Starting the Day off Right

For the last 20 years or so, I have always started my day with a bowl of cereal.  Granted, I tried to choose the ones I thought were healthy.

Raisin Bran...not Fruit Loops

Recently though, I've really been examining the areas in my diet where refined sugars sneak in.

19 grams of sugar in that Raisin Bran?

No wonder I have an energy slump mid-morning!

Starting with next week's menu plan, I will be adding breakfasts other than cereal to our daily menu.  Some of the options I've been brainstorming are:
I know this will be more work than simply pouring a bowl of cereal and milk, but since these breakfasts will be so delicious and healthy, I'm ready to give it a go!

What is your favorite breakfast recipe?  Do you have any tips for making wholesome breakfasts a little easier?

  1. awesome goal! I've found that we make up a big batch of pancakes or muffins and then freeze them for the a couple of weeks. That has saved a lot of time in the mornings as we've tried to eat better breakfasts too.

  2. I love that recipe for pancakes! Perfect for quick breakfasts in the morning. I also like plain yogurt and granola (I love the crockpot recipe found here: http://homewithpurpose.blogspot.com/2009/10/crockpot-granola.html?showComment=1257194201585#c7561664632981587065) I also make large batches of muffins and freeze them as they are a really easy breakfast when you are in a hurry!

  4. Yeah!

Let me know how that yogurt turns out! We make it weekly and I also love it in green smoothies for breakfast!

    Best,

  5. I make homemade sausage using ground beef. Using 1 pound of hamburger will give us two breakfasts (make at one time and freeze until needed).

    Allrecipes.com has some different variations!
